About the Event

Join us on October 9th as we explore one of Seattle's oldest and most notable historic sites, Capitol Hill's own Lake View Cemetery. As perhaps Seattle's most famous cemetery, Lake View is the final resting place of many prominent early Seattleites, including the Dennys, Maynards, Mercers, Yeslers, and Chief Seattle's daughter, Kikisoblu, also known as Princess Angeline. We will explore their stories, along with those of the notorious Madam Damnable, beloved martial artists and actors, Bruce and Brandon Lee, and more. Those on the tour will also gain insight into the history of the cemetery itself, as well as its place in the wider surrounding neighborhood.

The tour will be led by local attorney and history enthusiast Jared Steed, who has previously led historical tours for Atlas Obscura, Rotary Club of Seattle, and the People's Memorial Association.

The morning tour will begin at 10 a.m. and end at roughly 11:30 a.m. We will meet inside the cemetery just inside the main entrance off 15th Avenue: 1554 15th Ave. E., Seattle, WA 98122.

Notes:  Metered street parking is available on 15th Ave., and various side streets, but please read signs carefully and park at your own discretion. There is some limited street parking in front of the Grand Army of the Republic Cemetery on E. Howe St. Please do not park inside Lake View Cemetery itself. All persons aged 15 years or younger must be accompanied by an adult. Please remember this event will require walking a distance of about one mile and will run rain or shine. No public restrooms are available inside the cemetery.
